Analysis of Future Changes in the Bicycle and Electric Bicycle Landscape With the increasing global emphasis on environmental protection and health, the bicycle and electric bicycle markets are welcoming unprecedented development opportunities. Especially in urban transportation, electric bicycles are favored by more and more consumers for their convenience and environmental friendliness. Therefore, the revival of the Stella brand will undoubtedly bring a new competitive landscape to the global and local bicycle and electric bicycle markets. From a global perspective, the electric bicycle market is growing rapidly, with major brands increasing their investments to compete for market share. As a brand with deep roots, Stella's revival is expected to occupy a place in the global market. At the same time, Stella will also face fierce competition from other brands and needs to continuously strive in areas such as product innovation and marketing promotion. In the local market, the revival of the Stella brand is expected to provide consumers with more diversified choices.  Last week was the Velo-city 2024 in Ghent. From all over the world city planers, politicians, mobility companies, associations, cycling enthusiasts met for various panel discussions and presentations. I got the chance to talk about the next car is an ebike. I showed numbers and material how the mobility change could happen successfull if countries and the politicians invest more into infrastructure and S-Pedelec friendly law. There are success stories from Belgium, Switzerland, Denmark and partly Netherland. It is proven by this countries that a person commute much more then the daily avg commute which is in Europe between 12 km and 18 km. A Stromer rider is riding between average 20 km and even up to 31 km (Belgium). Last year over 110 Mio km were driven by a Stromer customers. If the politicians wants the "Verkehrswende" they need to enlarge the circle of users. A pedelec distance to commute to work is around 5-10 km everything above you won't use the pedelec and there a S-Pedelec brings its full potential and that's as well the distance where the most cars are driven and could be partly substituted. It will still take time but it was a great opportunity to speak at Velo City 2024 about the advantages and how it should be implemented. Don't forget a S-Pedelec is not a rowdy which is often written in Newspaper. Its is still like riding a bicycle it just supports you especially outside of cities to move faster. The average speed is not 45 km/h it is around 30 km/h that shows the riders adapt to the speed of the city. keep on going and support the mobility change which is needed, instead daily city in a traffic jam and waste time for other things as you are faster for certain distances as a car and you arrive at office and back home always with a smile. #heretochange #car #mobility #ebike @stromerbike

Shimano's 2024 Half-Year Report: Net Sales Down 20%, but European Market Shows Signs of Recovery! In its half-year report for 2024, Shimano reported that high inventory levels in major markets continue to impact the company. As a result, net sales in Shimano's bicycle division declined by 20.7% compared to the same period last year. However, there is some positive news as the European market shows signs of improvement.

Dutch journalists report that significant changes are on the horizon for Formula 1 leadership.   Notably, Stefano Domenicali, the current CEO of the championship, is expected to step down and take on a similar role... in MotoGP.   These shifts, along with Greg Maffei’s departure from Liberty Media at the end of the year, are reportedly tied to the recent victory of Donald Trump in the U.S. presidential election and the Republican Party’s success overall.   It’s worth noting that Republican support has been a key factor for Mario Andretti in his efforts to secure a spot for Andretti in Formula 1. Look at the numbers for all of her last week’s posts. From Sophia’s LinkedIn account: → 4.3K likes → 336 comments → 33 reposts From the Van Amersfoort Racing company account: → 128 likes → 1 comment → 0 reposts I think the numbers speak for themselves. People want to follow, engage with, and buy from other people. Takeaway: If you have an announcement or release coming soon, use your founder's or driver's accounts if they’re active on social media. Especially true if you’re a newer team or lack name recognition. Founder-led content isn’t new in other industries but in motorsport? It's severely under-utilized. What do you think? More cool #circular developments in the #cycling world. Lazer Sport NV launched their new Verde KinetiCore helmet. It is made with a high % of recycled content, but the coolest thing is: it is designed to be #disassembled and #recycled. Check out the video how this works. The website also features a very good #LCA (Life Cycle Analysis) report showing the #environmental impact of this helmet compared to a similar helmet made in the traditional way. Great report and good to be this #transparent to combat greenwashing. Sure, making a product such that it can be recycled is not a guarantee that it will be recycled, but it is a great step and it must have been a super #inspiring project to work on. Looking back to 2020, the world changed, and bicycle racing came to a standstill everywhere. Travel was impossible, motivation waned, and we found ourselves in a new reality—one that challenged us to reflect deeply on what truly mattered: our health, well-being, and how to stay connected while pursuing our passions. For me, it was a moment to pause and reconsider the meaning of resilience and connection. Whether it was discovering innovative ways to train, redefining goals, or coming together virtually to support one another, the cycling community—like so many others—demonstrated remarkable strength and adaptability. Initiatives such as virtual races, online team training sessions, and fresh approaches to athlete performance reminded us that even in isolation, we could stay united and reimagine what was possible. That period brought not only challenges but also opportunities—opportunities to rethink how we engage with sport, innovate with technology, and build stronger foundations for the future. It reinforced why I’m so passionate about the intersection of sport, health, and human potential. More importantly, it inspired a belief in something greater: the pursuit of living beyond our human potential. By pushing boundaries, breaking barriers, and redefining what we once thought were limits, we unlocked extraordinary possibilities—not just for athletes, but for all of us. Now, as we look to 2025 and beyond, and with Thanksgiving around the corner, I feel an even deeper sense of gratitude for the lessons learned and the resilience shown by this incredible racing organization and its athletes. I’m thankful for the opportunity to work alongside such inspiring individuals, for the challenges that have shaped us, and for the shared journey that unites us. Numbers do not lie. But numbers as such never tell the full story either. For better understanding numbers need to be put in #perspective. With Shimano and Fox Factory, two key suppliers of the #bicycle industry published their Q3 numbers as of late. As for Shimano, most #b2bmedia ran with the title „Shimano’s turnover down 12 percent in the bicycle division“ - which is true when looking at the entire January to September period. But there is a twist to this: After Q1, the bicycle division of Shimano was 20 percent down year-on-year. Three months later, this number stood at minus 18 percent, and now it’s down to minus 12 percent - because Q3 was the first quarter with a year-on-year #growth since the end of 2022 for Shimano. Oddly hardly any outlet put an emphasis on this aspect and Shimano was remarkably quiet about it as well. I actually had to subtract the Q1 and Q2 results to get to that number for Q3... Fox Factory has reported a year-on-year growth in turnover of more than 38 percent for its bicycle division in Q3 2024. While this sounds like a massive turn of the trend, a look at last year’s numbers show that the first half of 2023 was not all that bad for Fox Factory yet and turnover only took a nose dive in Q3. So what looks like a massive change is owed in large parts to the base of comparison. Still seeing these two heavy weights of the bike industry #supplychain posting better numbers is welcome good news at the end of the very week when Swiss #eBike icon and pioneer FLYER E-Bikes (Biketec AG) announced a second restructuring effort that will most likely result in a massive loss of jobs in Huttwil as the production of bikes will be moved to other factories that ZEG Zweirad-Einkaufs-Genossenschaft eG owns.

Trendwatching: Fatbikes are now a hunted species (in the Netherlands). Dutch authorities are not playing around - and not playing favourites - in a now ongoing crackdown on overpowered fatbikes. As much as the tuned fatbike is a uniquely concentrated problem for NL compared to most other EU countries, I expect this trend will spread beyond Dutch borders quite soon. After quarantining 1000 Chinese fatbikes last month (it seems for having throttle upgrade options and marketing that included descriptions of easy speed delimitation), The Dutch Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILT) have now held 1100 domestic (branding*) company La Souris fatbikes for having motors that are overpowered for eBike application, despite downtuning software. Yes, this stock freeze has happened despite the manufacturer recently announcing a software upgrade shutting down on any possibility of tuning to 45kph. Seized, "Simply" for being potentially overpowered, ornl for with a history of that happening more than incidentally? I'm not sure. I am sure many companies should be paying attention here. Sure, these bikes had fat tires so were a target through both cultural and legislative shortened patience or tolerance. But if software down tuning isn't enough to get these bikes freed from customs, what impact will this have on physical product specs, and market diversity of all sorts of ebikes into the future? I call La Souris a branding company as they started as an entity importing branded retro-look white label scooters. Article link in Dutch.

Dutch Cycling travel is up 18% in 10 years to 19.1Bn km/yr: out of the solar system! (the heliosphere is 18 Bn km away). Riding 1040km a year per individual, 88% of the population now owns a bike, and 80% ride regularly (vs 92% of kids). In the same period, car travel also increased, but only by 1.2%.
